International Office

Mission of the International Office

The International Office will implement the college’s international vision by developing and managing the institutional infrastructure, processes and procedures required to facilitate and promote internationalization at the college, using measures such as the expansion of English-taught courses, the exposure of students to intearnational perspectives within the course subject matter, the introduction to different cultures through activities on campus, study outings, etc.

Concurrently, the International Office will initiate and support academic collaborations that include researchers, faculty members, and students, as well as leaders and prominent institutions in the field from various frameworks, countries, and cultures.

Goals of the International Office

  1. To plan and lead the organizational, academic and technological infrastructure needed to support internationalization at the college;
  2. To develop and promote short-term and long-term international programs;
  3. To promote student, faculty and staff mobility;
  4. To develop international and intercultural competency among the college students, faculty and staff;
  5. To initiate and expand international academic collaborations;
  6. To instill international aspects into the academic and social life on campus.

International Collaborations

ISUL (International Startup League), is an international entrepreneurship program  initiated by the Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences in Germany with by 14 partner universities in 8 additional countries: Austria, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Finland, Greece, Israel and Switzerland. The program is supported by the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service). Max Stern Yezreel Valley College is one of the founding partners.

The first goal of the program is to prepare students for the working and living environment of tomorrow by promoting international thinking, collaboration and networking. A second goal is to develop entrepreneurship skills.

The following three project objectives are pursued:

  • Strengthening international cooperation
  • Expansion of digital, international and practice-oriented study programmers
  • Promoting networking between teaching, administration and research

On the basis of the objectives outlined, the following project results are sought:

  • Established network in the context of startup/entrepreneurship
  • Digital, international and practice-oriented study programs
  • Networking of employees from teaching, administration and research.

The program includes a joint summer school and lectures offered by professors from partner institutions. Various possibilities exist within the program for student and faculty mobility. Long-term projects now at the planning stage include:

  • A joint certificate on ‘international entrepreneurship’ that can be obtained by attending online lectures (more info to follow soon)
  • A joint masters degree (90 ECTS) on ‘international entrepreneurship’ where students live in up to three different locations and attend lectures at the ISUL partner universities (projected to start in fall 2024).

Researchers in the Department of Nursing together with colleagues in Georgia and Estonia are investigating the assessment of nursing students in the area of distant care (telenursing) through the use of simulations.

The practice of telenursing has become more common in the care of various populations and in various situations both in Israel and abroad. The interaction between the nurse and the patient is designed to improve the condition of the person seeking health care. Remote treatment through telenursing is challenging as the nurse has no visual or physical contact with the patient. Health workers must have well-developed clinical and interpersonal skills as well as the necessary knowledge and abilities in order to construct an image of the patient and provide appropriate treatment. The Corona pandemic has shown that remote medical treatment will be a major option in the future. Thus, it is important that nursing students be prepared for this eventuality. This universally accepted understanding has prompted the nursing department to develop a training program in this field. The implementation of the program and its assessment are expected to lead to its inclusion in the core studies of the nursing program.

The aims of the study:

  1. Examination of the necessary steps to develop a simulation-based training program in telenursing as part of the Nursing BA program.
  2. Development of the program and its assessment component.

The current study will have two phases:

  1. Qualitative study to include in-depth interviews with lecturers in the Department of Nursing, trainers in the department’s Simulation Center and key officials in the Nursing Administration in the Israeli Ministry of Health in order to identify obstacles, attitudes and ways in which to develop the subject of simulations in telenursing.
  2. Cohort study of third year nursing students to examine the level of their knowledge, sense of self-efficacy, telenursing clinical skills and readiness to practice telenursing at three points in time: before training, after training, 6 months after graduation.

In 2020, the Department of Social Work hosted a group of colleagues from KSH in a visit to see first-hand the services provided to children of asylum seekers from Africa in the southern neighborhoods of Tel Aviv. In November 2022, a second visit was arranged for these faculty members along with their graduate social work students, which included a trip to Beit Ruth, a village for young women and girls at risk and a visit to YVC, where they met with professors and students from the department and discussed issues related to multicultural social work. They also met with peers studying Organizational Development and Consulting and with the initiators of the “Academic Puzzle” project, who presented its program to bring together Arab and Jewish students. The group was also hosted in the college’s television studio.

 

Plans for 2023-2024

  • Hosting of KSH faculty and students at YVC
  • Fall semester course to include 3 zoom meetings between KSH and YVC social work students, in which they will discuss the topic “Culturally Sensitive Social Work.” The final paper in the course will be based on the learning from these encounters.
